What is gumkake?
This is a game where you hammer nails into a board and then attach rubber bands to the nails to create various shapes.
It is a tool that allows everyone, from preschoolers to adults, to enjoy thinking.
The act of putting on a rubber band trains your hands and allows you to learn the basics of geometry and arithmetic in a puzzle-like way.
This product comes from the string art specialty brand "Nail it!!"
A booklet containing 105 questions is included. You may be able to solve the questions easily in the beginning, but the questions become more difficult towards the end.
It's full of the fun of using your hands, thinking, having inspiration, and making things happen.
How to play
First, hammer in the nails. It's fun to think about which color nails to use where.
Nailing is one of the elements recommended for 3rd and 4th graders in the arts and crafts teaching guidelines. By using the included nail guide, you can hammer in nails without holding the nail directly. It reduces the worry of hitting the nail with a hammer, so it is recommended for those who are new to nailing!
*Children should be accompanied by an adult when hammering nails.
Recreate the shapes in the rubber band book using a set number of rubber bands.
Each problem is made up of exactly one type of identical shape overlapping each other.
While checking the points written on the rubber band book and the position of the nails hammered into the board, attach each rubber band one by one.
The task of visually checking which point corresponds to which nail is useful for training spatial awareness. It can be enjoyed as a game, helping children develop their intelligence and training the brains and fingers of the elderly.
This is a comprehensive workbook with six levels of problems, from simple shapes made with one rubber band to more difficult shapes made with 12 bands.
You can start at any difficulty level depending on your age and preferences.
Even adults will be left thinking, "Hmm...?", when faced with the problem involving 12 rubber bands.

Gomukake's thoughts
"Gomu-kake" allows anyone to create a variety of geometric patterns, and it can provide new inspiration as a starting point for string art or as a first teaching material for discovering the fun of mathematics.
By using rubber bands that can be attached and removed repeatedly, string art can now be enjoyed more easily and familiarly. Gomu Kake will likely become an important tool in activities that lead to the realization of inclusive education and society in the future.
